Welcome from the Vocation Director of the
Diocese of Jefferson City
Hello, and thank you for visiting our website for priestly vocations in the Diocese of Jefferson City.  No matter whether you are a man considering the priesthood, the parent of a young man discerning a possible calling or an eager young student looking to learn more about priests, hopefully this website can answer some of your questions about the priesthood and our diocese.

Where do priests come from?  From God?  Yes, in a way they do come to us from God.  He speaks to men quietly through prayer, encouraging men to heed His call.  But, He also speaks to these men through all of us!  Priests come from your parishes, your schools and your homes.

We must remember that WE are the Body of Christ.  Each one of us has a role to play in our parish and in our family.  While not all of us are called to the priesthood, we are each called to live out in a holy manner our own vocations, whether it be getting married, being single or serving as a priest or religious.  Also, we have a duty to encourage others to find their vocation and support them in their discernment.

Our diocese, just like so many dioceses worldwide, needs men to heed God’s call to the priesthood.  But, perhaps even more, we need “inviters” to the priesthood.  We need individuals who ask men to think about the priesthood.   I challenge you to ask faith-filled men to consider the priesthood.  Plant the seed and God will help the idea grow in those men He is truly calling.

I am visiting parishes throughout this year to help establish vocation committees, but I encourage parishes to get a head start.  There are some great resources for parishes to get started on their vocations committee on this website.  Feel free to adapt these programs to suit your parish’s needs.  The Diocesan Vocation Committee, the Vocation Office and I will be more than happy to assist you in developing programs and events that will encourage men to consider the priesthood.

Who will serve as a priest?  Perhaps it is the young man who painted your mother’s house as part of a service project.  Perhaps it is the accountant in your firm whose true gifts are going unused.  Or maybe it’s you.  I invite all of you to Discover the Priesthood.
God Bless,
Rev. Joe Corel
