Prayers to Know One's Vocation

Lord, my God, and my loving Father, you have made me to know you, to love you and to serve you, and thereby to find and to fulfill myself. I know that you are in all things, and that every path can lead me to you.  But of them all, there is one especially by which you want me to come to you. Since I will do what you want of me, I pray you send your Holy Spirit to me, into my mind, to show me what you want of me, into my heart, to give me the determination to do it, and to do it with all my love, with all my mind, and with all my strength right to the end. Amen. 

Lord, I ask you to send down the Holy Spirit upon me to enlighten me that I may know the designs of your Providence concerning me and that filled with a sincere desire for my soul’s salvation I may say with the young man in the gospel, “what must I do to be saved?”  All states of life are before me; but still undecided what to do, I await your command. I offer myself to you without restriction, without reserve, with a most perfect submission.  Far be it from me, O Lord, to oppose your wisdom and unfaithful to the inspiration of your grace, to strive to subject the will of the Creator to the caprice of the creature.  It is not for the servant to choose the way in which he will serve his master; do lay upon me what pleases you. My lot is in your hands.  “Speak Lord for your servant is listening.”  Amen. 

Lord Jesus up until now you have been quietly preparing me to be Your disciple.  Now the time of preparation is ending.  I seem to hear You say to me as once to Peter, “Will you also go away?” You were saddened then by friends who failed you.  But Peter did not fail, “Lord” he said, “to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.”  I stand with Peter.  Through prayer and counsel show me, Lord, where it is in Your vineyard You want me to serve.  Then give me strength to be faithful.  Mary, Mother and Model, help me to respond in generous love to the call of your Divine Son. Amen.
