Biographies of Those Called By God
Explanation: #1:Someone from the parish researches all of the past pastors, associate pastors, and priests in residence who have served their parish or are currently serving their parish. Then, once they have been named, see if they can be located and begin asking them questions to make into a short one page biography. If the person could supply a picture (or one could be procured) that would be helpful to the one page biography. Once the biography is written, publish it as a one page insert in the bulletin. Do these once a month or so until all of the biographies have been run.
#2: Using The Catholic Missourian and parish archives research who from the parish has been ordained for either this diocese or another. Interview them and make a biography. Include these as an insert in the bulletin.
Steps:
1. Delegate someone to research who has served the parish as a priest.
2. Find out how to contact those who are living.
3. Formulate questions you would like to ask to put into a biography format: Examples:
a. What is your call story
b. What are your hobbies and interests?
c. Where have you served besides this parish?
d. What can you tell us about your family?
e. What attracts you to ministry?
f. Why should others consider priesthood?
g. What would you say to someone who is discerning?
4. Interview over the phone or e-mail. Mailing the survey will get a slower response.
5. Once the interview is complete, write it into a biography.
6. Keep collecting these until you have several.
7. Once you have several, begin running them once a month as a bulletin insert.
8. After they have all been in the bulletin, display in a prominent place for all to read.
9. With priest's permission, send to the diocesan vocation office so they can be placed on this website.
